Tensile strength of ideal nano-fibre reinforced composites M. Cerny, J. Pokluda Atomistic modeling of uniaxial loading of ideal composite lamina having continuous nano-fibre reinforcements is performed using pseudopotential approach within density functional theory. In particular, elastic moduli and the theoretical tensile strengths are computed for several concentrations of the reinforcing material in the nano-composite model. The calculations are also performed under several different loading conditions and with different number of degrees of freedom. The results are obtained using several supercells and different compositions and suggest that the tensile strength cannot be simply estimated using linear rules of mixtures since systematic deviations from the linear trend were observed.
