Researchers’ Night 2025

Friday, September 26, was dedicated to the European Researchers’ Night with the theme Wealth.

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering welcomed a record 1,917 visitors, where our institute and student teams proudly presented what we consider our greatest treasure – the joy of discovery and physics.

In the corridors by the lecture halls, guests could explore the physics of vacuum, magnetism, moment of inertia, or the basic principles of lasers. One of the biggest attractions was the Van de Graaff generator, making the hair of brave volunteers stand on end. At our stand, we also hid a special treasure – a colloidal solution of gold nanoparticles.

In the darkened part of our exhibition, visitors experienced experiments showing the nature of light through spectra and polarization, demonstrations of holograms, as well as hands-on activities highlighting the importance of UV protection and the propagation of sound waves.

Late at night, our award-winning lecturer Petr Viewegh. delivered a lecture “Where is Gold Made in the Universe?” in Aula Q.
