A New Czech Edition of HRW Physics Was Officially Introduced at FME BUT

The new Czech edition of the legendary HRW Physics textbook was prepared by experts from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at BUT under the leadership of Professor Petr Dub from the Institute of Physical Engineering. The modernized publication continues more than twenty years of Czech publishing tradition and remains one of the world’s most respected university-level physics textbooks.

On Thursday, April 9, 2026, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Brno University of Technology hosted the ceremonial introduction of the third Czech edition of the Halliday – Resnick – Walker textbook Physics. The new edition was prepared by the VUTIUM Publishing House in cooperation with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering under the leadership of Prof. RNDr. Petr Dub, CSc. from our Institute of Physical Engineering.

This fully revised edition was developed in close connection with the Institute of Physical Engineering. The expert editing and preparation of the Czech text were carried out by Prof. Petr Dub together with other colleagues from the institute. The publication reflects current scientific knowledge as well as modern approaches to physics education, particularly important for students of technical disciplines.

The program also included a lecture entitled “10 Years with Gravitational Waves” delivered by Professor Jiří Podolský from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University. The lecture thematically followed the cover motif of the new textbook edition and introduced the audience to one of the most significant discoveries of modern physics, including the technological background behind the detection of gravitational waves.

Professor Petr Dub has long been engaged not only in solid-state physics, but also in the improvement of physics education. In an interview for zvut.cz, he reflects on the history of the Czech HRW edition, the preparation of its third edition, and his lifelong connection to physics.

More information and photographs from the event are also available in the faculty news article.
